Internship Students: Writing Your Paper for Academic Credit
If you’ve ever completed an internship for college credit from your university, you know what a headache it can turn out to be. Very often, you may even ask yourself why you’re bothering to go through the trouble of getting credit. Many institutions have made it mandatory for students to write an extensive paper about the experience they got from the internship they’re getting credit for. The problem is how vague the instructions are (especially when the professors reviewing these papers are so critical and know exactly what they want!). There’s no magic bean that will make this process painless, but there ways to make the paper much easier on you and anyone reading it. As much as it may have annoyed you to write this credit paper, any person reading it would definitely be able to pick up on it if you half assed it with a bitter resentment. Here are some tips on how to take some of the hassle out of your paper:
-Interview your boss and co-workers. It may seem ridiculous to you, but professors and academic departments yearn for in-field work. A simple two minute conversation between you and your boss about the on-goings of the company can not only take a couple of pages, but it requires virtually no work and is guaranteed to satisfy.
-Find a topic that actually appealed to you. It may take more than five minutes to think of a good topic, but it’ll be worth it while you’re writing. The quality of the paper will drastically improve if you genuinely enjoy the topic you’re discussing.
-Write it as you go along. If you write a little bit each day during your downtime at an internship, the paper will improve in almost every way. You don’t want to be sitting at your desk into the wee hours of the night before it’s due. Take it step by step and you’ll get an A for your internship for sure.
