Say you’re working in HR for a company. The company wants you to hire 10 students to fill internships. What kind of students do you want to hire for these internships? What kind of qualities would you look for in the best internship students?
Think about these things when you’re applying for internships as a student yourself. Put yourself in shoes of HR and think like they think. What do you have to offer that HR would like? What can you do to make them say, “We need to hire this student for our internship program.” How can you convey your strengths in a way that makes you a great fit for the internship?
When you’re doing this, also keep in mind what you can do to set yourself apart from other internship students. Think about what most internship students are doing to get internships. Think about what they’re saying in their cover letters and how they’re writing their resumes. What can you do to break the mold and connect with your employer?
Don’t do what everyone else does. Your goal is to be different than other internship students. You need show your strengths in a unique way to be the best student possible for the internship. Keep in mind that most internship students won’t get the internship. So don’t do what most internship students do! You need to be one of the few students that get the internship. Be unique and creative. Do your own thing, and do whatever it takes to connect with whoever is reading your cover letter.
These are the things you need to keep in mind when you’re applying for an internship as a student. Most internship students aren’t even thinking about these kinds of things. Think about this advice and how it applies to you. Good luck in your internship search!
