What kind of internship students would YOU want?

If you’re searching for internships, you want companies to know that you are the best student for the internship.  How can you do this?  Put yourself in their shoes and think about what kind of internship students you would want.  If you were running a summer internship program, what are some qualities that your ideal internship students would have?

Internship students should be eager to learn, but not overzealous.  Internship students should be confident, but they shouldn’t be cocky.  Internship students should be driven and motivated, but not cut-throat.  Being a great internship student requires balance in many areas.  Make sure that you are striking this balance so companies can see that you are a great internship student.

These are the qualities that companies look for when they’re searching for internship students.  Think about what experiences you’ve had as a student convey these qualities that good internship students have.  Your clubs and other extracurricular activities will show that you are involved and motivated.  But a lot of these qualities are intangible, and the best way you can show that you have them is through your internship application and your interview.

It’s only through your interview that you can show companies that you are a great internship students.  Interviews can make or break internship students in the eyes of the company.  In your internship interview, you can show that you are confident and eager.  It really is the key to you showing that you are the ideal internship student. 

You should always be thinking about what makes great internship students in the eyes of companies.  Figure out how you fit into this ideal mold of the internship student, and do whatever it takes to show companies that you are this ideal internship student.
